This stable weather pattern provides the ideal conditions for the balanced development of the plants, ensuring optimal ripening of the grapes. However, this year we have observed atypical behaviour during the month of June, characterised by intermittent rainfall and storms that have introduced a significant level of uncertainty into our vineyards.

Challenges of the Unusual Climate

Although rainfall can be beneficial by providing necessary soil moisture, it also presents certain challenges. Excessive moisture favours the development of fungal diseases such as downy mildew and powdery mildew, which can compromise the health of the vines and, consequently, the quality of the grapes. Furthermore, storms have the potential to cause direct physical damage to the plants, ranging from the breakage of grape bunches to impacts on the structure of the leaves and shoots.

Impact on Grape Development

The unusual weather in June has had a noticeable impact on the development of our grapes. The rainfall has ensured adequate water availability, which could result in more vigorous plant growth. However, under these conditions, careful vineyard management is crucial to avoid an excess of vegetation that could limit the sun exposure of the bunches, an essential factor for the proper ripening of the grapes.

The cooler temperatures associated with rain and storms can delay the grape ripening process, prolonging the growing season. Although this allows for a more gradual accumulation of sugars and other essential compounds, constant monitoring is essential to ensure that the grapes reach their optimum ripeness at harvest time.

In conclusion, efficient and proactive vineyard management in the face of these unusual weather conditions will be decisive for the quality of the 2024 harvest. At Bodegas Rodero, we are committed to facing these challenges with dedication and expertise, guaranteeing excellence in every bottle produced.

Tradicionalmente, el clima en la Ribera del Duero a finales de primavera y principios de verano es seco, con temperaturas cálidas que favorecen el crecimiento vigoroso y saludable de las vides.
