SUSTAINABLE VITICULTURE IS POSSIBLE

Nature is our greatest ally. Wine production depends directly on the environment and its care; otherwise, the wine industry would have no way to develop.

Climate change is a reality. The current scenario in which we find ourselves forces us to take serious measures to contribute to the conservation of the planet and tackle the gradual rise in temperatures. The increase of more than one degree Celsius in the Ribera del Duero landscape in recent decades, as a result of the greenhouse effect, directly affects our vineyards and grape production. The ripening cycles of our «black pearls» have been altered and the alcohol content of the wines has progressively increased.

For this reason, it is essential that we at Carmelo Rodero adapt to these new changes and work to protect our land by producing environmentally friendly wines in a sustainable way, originating from renewable energies. Consequently, next May we will begin the installation of photovoltaic equipment at the winery, with which we aim to obtain a clean source of energy to supply our needs.

These installations will be located on the winery roof and will have a rated power of 100 kW, through which it is intended that all the required energy we produce comes from a renewable and eco-friendly source. As pointed out by our commercial director, María Rodero, the main objective of this project is «to replace the energy consumed in the winery with that obtained from a clean energy source.».

The signing of this new project took place last January, and the installation of the solar panels at Bodegas Carmelo Rodero is scheduled to begin during the coming month of May.
